Who is the archangel Metatron?

Metatron is the most powerful archangel of the celestial kingdom in rabbinic Judaism and angelology, and for this reason he is called “Little Yahweh”, being only below Yahweh God, as a «YHWH lesser» in the Talmud or the protective archangel of the Tree of Life in Genesis, although there is no specific reference to this archangel in the Bible. In the earliest Kabbalistic writings it is said that Metatron is the mediator between God and men and that he created Metatron's cube from his own soul.

When he ascends to heaven without dying, the prophet Enoch becomes Metatron, the most powerful archangel of the Kingdom of Heaven, protector of the throne of Yahweh God and guardian of the Garden of Eden and the Tree of Life. As he ascends, Enoch creates Metatron's Cube with his soul, as a symbol of his power over all things that are, are not, and can be.

There are various interpretations of the origin of Metatron, but the most widespread affirms that it is the prophet Enoch, grandson of Abraham and great-grandfather of Noah, one of the first great prophets of Judaism, Christianity and Islam (which is called Idris in the Quran). According to tradition, Yahweh God allows Enoch's ascension to Heaven without dying, after having several visions of the prophet, and turns him into his most powerful archangel. On his ascension, Enoch creates Metatron's Cube from his own soul and thus as a representation of his power as the right hand of Yahweh God.

The etymology of the name Metatron is also confusing and there are various interpretations of what it means. Some scholars argue that it means "gatekeeper" in Hebrew, referring to the Kingdom of Heaven or the Garden of Eden. Other scholars believe that it comes from the Greek and means "who is behind the throne", as a guardian and protector of God. He is also called Methraton, Metrator, Merattron or Meetatron.

In both the Christian Bible and the Jewish Torah, Enoch is mentioned as a prophet who was taken to heaven without dying (Genesis 5:23- 24). However, the texts of the Book of Enoch belonging to the Merkavah tradition were excluded from both religions, Christianity and Judaism. And, however, the archangel Metatron is mentioned in the Talmud and played a very important role in medieval mystical Judaism.

What does Metatron's Cube mean?

Metatron's Cube is an intricate design, but if you look closely it's simpler than it first appears. It is based on a series of concentric circles that give rise to a series of geometric figures. It starts with a central circle and is then surrounded by six more circles of the same size, like a flower. In turn, each of those six added circles gives rise to another circle at the end of the figure. Therefore, in total there are 13 equal circles. That is why it is called "the fruit of life", due to its relationship with the design that gives rise to the "flower of life".

If we connect the 13 circles to each other with straight lines, the five Platonic solids appear: the tetrahedron, the cube, the octahedron, the dodecahedron and the icosahedron. They are the Platonic solids, also called Pythagorean solids, cosmic bodies, perfect solids or Platonic polyhedra. They are characterized because they are convex polyhedra where all their faces are regular polygons equal to each other and in which all solid angles are equal. There are only these five Platonic solids, as mathematics already demonstrated in Plato's time. They are very typical forms of sacred geometry.
